A three day event held 24 – 26th June at the Tokyo American Club using its state of the art squash courts the tournament attracts the top seeds of Japanese squash as well as players from the foreign community.
Over 150 players meet to play a series of elimination rounds over the period with players selecting the division which best suited their skill level:
The winners:
Runner-up: Mika Ishizawa
In an interesting upset both the #1 players in men and women’s lost before the grand final this year! While the men’s #1 seed made it through to the finals the women’s #1 seed, Kobayashi, only made it to the semi-finals.
Aside from sponsorship money Asian Tigers Premier Worldwide Movers also supplied all players with an AT bag: holding gifts from other sponsors and these became useful for transporting clothes to and from the club each day or the tournament. AT also provided three prize bags for runner ups containing a range of AT sporting gifts as well as a bottle of wine for celebration.
Managing Director, Nick Masee, himself a keen squash player, was present for the finals and grand finals: "It is simply amazing to watch players who are at this high of a skill level. They make it look so easy, but as a player, I know it is not. If it were not for mistakes being made from time to time, some points would literally go on forever!”
